About UsTravis Gower![]() Head Coach This year will be Coach Gower's fourth year at Walton High School and first year as Head Cross County and Head Boys Track & Field Coach. Coach Gower graduated from McEachern High School in 1998; where he was a multiple letter winner in both Cross Country and Track & Field. He was a walk-on to the University of Georgia Cross Country and Track & Field programs. Coach Gower graduated for UGA in 2002 with a degree in Social Science Education. He also coached individual athletes to numerous county, metro, state, and All-American honors. As the head coach at Walton High School, Coach Gower has high goals to continue and improve upon the great success Walton has known for years. He hopes to build on the legacies of Tom Williams, Bill Sheskey, and his father Lee Gower who built the Walton legacy for the first 35 years. Coach Gower hopes to develop a program that will compete for region and state titles every year, while also, developing young people into stronger, more confident runners and people. Coached from 2002 to 2008 at McEachern High School (Powder Springs, GA); 2008 to the present at Walton High School (Marietta, GA) where he is the Head Cross Country and Head Track & Field Coach. Accomplishments include 2007 & 2008 Georgia State Track and Field Team Champions at McEachern, 2010 Girls State Champions in XC (Walton), 3 Boys Cross Country Region Titles @ McEachern 1 Boys Cross Country & 1 Girls Cross Country Region Titles @ Walton 4 Boys Track & Field & 4 Girls Track & Field Region Titles @ McEachern Numerous All-County, All-Metro, and All-State athletes at both McEachern and Walton 2 All-Americans (Ben Hubers and William Wynne) Competed at McEachern High School Cross Country and Track & Field, University of Georgia Cross Country and Track & Field. Jessica KerzieTrack and XC CoachJessica Kerzie has been a part of the Walton community since 1999 when she competed in her first Cross Country season as a freshman. Following her 2003 WHS graduation, she attended Georgia Southern University. At GSU, Jessica was a student athlete competing on both the Cross Country and Track & Field teams. She graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education and has been teaching at Mount Bethel Elementary for 5 years. Jessica is beginning her 5th year coaching at WHS. Amanda Ryan![]() XC Coach The 2012 season will be the 3rd season coaching cross country will be the 9th season for Amanda Ryan as the varsity head coach of the Lady Raiders Lacrosse team. She began her lacrosse career at the University of Georgia where she played club lacrosse. After graduation from UGA with a degree in Biology, she became a girls lacrosse official and president of the Southeastern Womens Lacrosse League. Coach Ryan began coaching at Roswell High School where she coached their varsity and JV program for 3 years. She then coached for 1 year at North Springs High School as the varsity assistant while getting her master’s degree in Science Education. She is proud to be at Walton and looking forward to another successful season. Bill Stewart![]() Track and XC Coach High School: 12 years coaching (11 years Walton High School, 1 year Cherry Hill East, NJ) male and female distance runners. During that time teams have won 2 state championships, and placed in the top 5 at the Georgia State meet 12 times in Cross Country. In track, distance runners (800, 1600, 3200) have had at least one representative qualify for the state meet every year. Adult Running: Have had five runners qualify for the US Olympic Marathon Trials and coached two female International runners to personal bests of 2:34 and 2:38 in the marathon. Have coached two runners to national teams (US and Sweden), as well as had nationally ranked runners in the 10K, ½ Marathon, and Marathon. Personal: Have been an active runner for 30 years. Current school record holder at the University of Massachusetts for the indoor 800m (1:52) and indoor 1000m (2:24), other personal bests include 3:52 (1500m), 14:32 (5000m), 30:07 (10,000m) and 1:06:00 (1/2 Marathon). In cross country was All-America (Top 10) at US National Club Cross Country Championships in 2001. Rob Nichols![]() Track Coach Rob, a Raider alumnus, joined the Walton staff in 2002. He is a graduate of the Citadel, where he was a three- season starter at both Corner and Free Safety and also a Special Teams standout. In 2001, Rob was the recipient of the prestigious Brigadier Foundation award, given to the Bulldog football player who best exemplifies "Team Before Self." Rob didn't limit his activities to only football-he also ran track, specializing in the 400 meters and the 400 meter relay, and was twice named All-Southern Conference. He was a member of the 1999 Southern Conference 4 x 100 relay champions. Rob, a 1997 Walton graduate, was an outstanding athlete in both football and track. He ranks 3rd all time in the 400 meters with a time of 48.93. Coach Nichols will be working with sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, and relay teams this track season. Dina Bagby ParkerHurdles Coach![]() Dina Parker began her love of track and field at the age of six. She competed as a sprinter, jumper, and thrower and has held youth records in the 50 and 100 yard dash. Dina added hurdles to her event list as a teenager and placed on the national level in the Pentathlon, which consists of the 100m hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, and 800m run. Coach Parker joined the Raiders Track and Field program in 2008. She primarily coaches the sprint and hurdle group. In her brief time with the Raiders, she has coached two athletes that hold a time in the top 5 on Walton's All Time List in both hurdle races. A Walton graduate of the class of 1996, she lettered in track and cheerleading. Coach Parker holds the second fastest time in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.70, which is also the sophomore record. Other top times are in the 300m hurdles and the 4x200m relay. She was 4th in State in 1993 and was also named an All County Athlete. Coach Parker graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. She resides in the Walton district with her three children Chandler (8), Preston (6), and Tyler (5). Terran Viehe![]() Pole Vault Walton High School class of 97'. Pole-Vaulted for Walton Track and Field during his four years and holds one of the top school records. Terran continues his passion through learning, practicing and coaching both Western and Russian Style Pole-Vaulting methods. Since his start as Pole-Vault Coach for Walton in 2005 he has qualified athletes to compete at State Meets 5 times and his athletes have placed at State meets 3 times. He has coached the male Pole-Vaulter with the second highest jump at the school and the female with highest jump for school record. When Terran is not coaching he enjoys his work as a Telecommunications Design Engineer. In his free time he also enjoys travelling, the outdoors and applies his technical abilities to extreme whitewater kayaking. He competes yearly in the Green River Narrows Race which is also known as the worlds hardest whitewater race. Terran's passion for technical sports make him a great contribution to the coaching staff and an ideal coach for Pole-Vaulting. |
